Pitch Count Rules For Majors | Minors | Rookies | Softball

Revisiting Pitch Count Rules established by Little League for Baseball/Softball

Prior to the season, we gave suggestions to all Managers in all upper divisions (Minors/Rookies/Majors/Softball) regarding EARLY SEASON pitch counts.  Please understand these are just suggestions, but the kids' arms are first and foremost why Little League puts these rules in place.

Managers have to pay attention to them.

Pitcher / Catcher Reminders

  • Any player who has played the position of catcher in four (4) or more innings in a game is not eligible to pitch on that calendar day.
  • A pitcher who delivers 41 or more pitches in a game cannot play the position of catcher for the remainder of that day.
  • A player who played the position of catcher for three (3) innings or less, moves to the pitcher position, and delivers 21 pitches or more in the same day, may not return to the catcher position on that calendar day.
  • Under no circumstance shall a player pitch in three (3) consecutive days. AT ANY LEVEL of LL ball.
  • If a pitcher reaches the limit imposed in Regulation for his/her league age while facing a batter, the pitcher may continue to pitch until batter reaches base, batter is out, the third out is made to complete the 1/2 inning, the pitcher is removed from the mound.

BASEBALL AGES... NOT ACTUAL AGES

(You must know your players' baseball ages) Email your division directors if you don't!

  • 11-12 Years Old ---   85 Pitches MAX per day - recommended to NOT get anywhere near this until later in the season (Suggested - Mid May)
  • 9-10 Years Old ---   75 Pitches MAX per day - recommended to NOT get anywhere near this until later in the season (Suggested - Mid May)
  • 6-8 Years Old ---   50 Pitches MAX per day  (Suggested - Mid May)

Early in the season there is NO reason at all to be going over 60 pitches per day for any player in our park.  This is just our humble opinion. Try to get all your kids on the mound for 20-35 to see what you've got... IF they are confident enough to get up there and throw for you then throw them in there. If you think you are going to be short on arms, try to have a plan PREGAME.

Pitchers league age 12 and under must adhere to the following rest requirements:

  • If a player pitches 66 or more pitches in a day, four (4) calendar days of rest must be observed.
  • If a player pitches 51-65 pitches in a day, three (3) calendar days of rest must be observed.
  • If a player pitches 36-50 pitches in a day, two (2) calendar days of rest must be observed.
  • If a player pitches 21-35 pitches in a day, one (1) calendar days of rest must be observed.
  • If a player pitches 1-20 pitches in a day, no (0) calendar day of rest is required.

66+  If you pitch Monday, you can't pitch again until Saturday

51-65 - Pitch Monday can't pitch until Friday

36-50 - Pitch Monday can't pitch until Thursday

21-35 - Pitch Monday can't pitch until Wednesday

0-20 - Pitch Monday CAN pitch Tuesday

Remember your days off.

Managers have to fill out their affidavits after each game. (Attached Pitching Eligibility Tracking Form) and be prepared to show the opposing team Manager if it's asked for.
