All-Stars & Selects Program Overview
What are All Stars?
All‑Stars are competitive post‑season teams formed at the end of the house season (mid‑June). These teams compete in tournaments and exhibition games.
Eligibility
Players must:
- Meet the Little League age requirements (see Age Chart)
- Live or attend school within LLL boundaries (Click here for catchment information)
How Players Are Selected
All‑Star teams are coach‑selected. To be considered, players must attend all scheduled assessments (typically in May). Selection is based on:
- Regular‑season performance and coach feedback (including sportsmanship)
- Performance during open clinics/tryouts
- Positional needs of the team
Cost
Players selected to an All‑Star team will pay:
- Uniform fee: approx. $275
- Travel expenses: varies by tournament
No player will be denied a spot due to financial barriers. Families needing support should contact the Registrar.
All Star Teams
11/12 All Stars
Eligibility: Baseball age 11 or 12
Season Timeline:
Daily practices and exhibition games begin shortly after the regular season ends (end of May, early June)
Compete in the District 7 Tournament (June 27-July 5 at Hampton Little League)
District winner advances to Provincial Championships (July 18-25 in Trail)
Commitment: Players should expect to practice or play most days from mid‑June through the end of tournament play. All‑Star players must prioritize their Layritz All‑Star team over any non‑Little League teams, sports camps, or other sports during this period.
9/10 All Stars
Eligibility: Baseball age 9 or 10
Season Timeline:
Daily practices and exhibition games begin after the regular season (mid‑June)
Compete in the District 7 Tournament (July 4 -11 at Central Saanich Little League)
District winner advances to Provincial Championships (July 18-25 at Beacon Hill Little League)
Commitment: Players should expect to practice or play most days from mid‑June through the end of tournament play. As with 11/12s, All‑Star commitments take priority over all other sports activities.
Player Assessments/Try Outs
Each tryout lasts approximately 2 hours. Players must attend all sessions unless excused by the selection committee.
Parent Expectations
Parents:
- Must not participate in or communicate with players during tryouts
- Will receive a verbal warning if coaching or communicating from the sidelines
- May be asked to leave the tryout if warnings are ignored
Players are not removed from consideration for a parent’s first violation, but repeated issues may result in removal from the selection process.
SELECTS PROGRAM
The Selects Program is an additional competitive post‑season option, typically for players aged 8–11. It focuses on advanced skill development and competitive play and often runs alongside All‑Stars.
Key Features
- Designed for competitive players not placed on 9/10 or 11/12 All‑Star teams
- Two teams are formed: 11U and 9U
- Teams are selected in late May
- Games and tournaments run from late June through July
- High commitment level
- Selection is based on skill evaluations (batting, fielding, throwing) and regular‑season performance
Difference from All‑Stars: All‑Stars aim to advance through official Little League tournament pathways, while Selects teams often have more flexible schedules and a development‑focused approach.
